What is Publishing?
Publishing your website will export all the pages, images, attached media and necessary supporting files from your project, and upload them to your host.
How do I publish my website?
1) Click on the Publish button on the toolbar, or File > Publish
2) If you have not added your FTP details yet, select which web host you wish to use. If you have, skip to step 6:
3a) For Xara Hosting or Magix Online World - Select and enter your username and password for your account.
3b) If you have your own web host, select Other web host (via FTP) and click Settings.
Connect via FTP, FTPS or SFTP. Xara will use port 22 by default. If you wish to change the port number, add a colon and the port number at the end of your FTP address. For example:
FTP host address:
The FTP address to connect to your host. Your host will provide this for you and is often different to your actual website's URL.
This is the username you use to connect. Some hosts will ask you to create an FTP username, others will create it automatically and provide it for you.
The password to log into your FTP account, often different to the password you use to log into your host.
If you leave this blank, Xara will publish to the root (top level) folder. If your host requires your website files to go into a specific folder, enter the folder name here. If you need to navigate through several folders, use '/'. For example:
Enter the URL for your website (not the host address) in order to generate a sitemap. Sitemaps are used by search engines to learn about the pages in your website. You can read more about it here - https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/sitemaps/overview#what-is-a-sitemap
4) Click on OK, then OK again within the Web Properties Dialog
5) Click on the publish button again.
6) You can review the FTP server and Optional subfolder here. Once you are happy, click Publish and the process will begin.
Can I use my own FTP tool to publish my website?
Yes. Go to File > Export Website, and select a folder to export all your pages and files to that folder. Afterwards, use your FTP tool such as FileZilla or WinSCP to connect and copy the files over.
Can I preview my website locally prior to publishing online?
Yes. Click on the Preview Website button on the toolbar, or File > Preview Website (F5).
This will export your website to a temporary folder and then open your index page in your default browser.
Can I browse my web space from within the program?
When you have completed the FTP host address, FTP username and FTP password boxes, click the Explore web space button to browse, view and delete files you have uploaded to your ftp server.
